A fitting van comes to your home or workplace and changes your tyres on the spot, usually in under an hour. Here is exactly how it works, what you need, and when a workshop is the better call.

The van comes to you
The fitter arrives with your tyres and a fully equipped van: jack, gun, balancer and new valves. You do not need any equipment, power or tools.
Fitted, balanced, torqued, done
Each wheel comes off, the new tyre is mounted and balanced at the van, and wheels are torqued to the maker’s spec. Two tyres typically take 30 to 45 minutes, and your old tyres leave for recycling.
What you need on the day
A flat, safe parking spot the van can pull up next to, on your drive, outside your house, or in a workplace car park with permission. Have the locking wheel nut key to hand, and make sure the car is there for the whole slot. That is it: the van carries the tyres, the balancer and everything else, and your old tyres leave with the fitter for recycling.
When mobile fitting is the right call
You cannot easily get to a workshop: a flat on the drive, no spare, a packed work day, or small children at home. You know the size you need and the wheels are standard. You would rather lose no time at all than sit in a waiting room.
When a workshop makes more sense
You suspect damage beyond the tyre, the car pulls or vibrates, you want wheel alignment done in the same visit, or the car sits too low for a mobile jack. Workshops have ramps and alignment rigs that a van cannot carry.

Is mobile fitting more expensive than a workshop?
Often the price is the same or close: you see the full fitted price for both options before you book, so there is no guesswork. Any difference is shown upfront, never on the day.
How long does mobile tyre fitting take?
Around 30 to 45 minutes for two tyres and about an hour for four, plus a few minutes of paperwork. You do not need to stand with the van, just be reachable.
What if it rains?
Normal rain is no problem: fitters work in the weather all year. Only conditions that make the job unsafe, such as storms or ice on a sloped drive, lead to a reschedule at no cost.
Can a mobile fitter repair a puncture instead?
Yes, when the damage is in the repairable central band of the tread. The fitter inspects the tyre first and will tell you honestly whether a safe repair is possible or a replacement is needed.
