When buying used, find out whether the battery warranty transfers and how much of it remains. On an electric car that is a more significant number than the remaining vehicle warranty.

The single most useful thing is a state of health figure, which expresses remaining capacity against original. Many cars display it, and independent testing services can produce a certified figure.

Treat it the way you would treat compression on a used petrol engine: the number that tells you what you are actually buying. A car with a documented state of health is worth more than one without, and a seller who will not obtain one is telling you something.

Also ask how it has been charged. A car charged mostly at home overnight has had an easier life than an identical one that lived on rapid chargers, and that history does not show in the mileage.
