Driving in Derby, and what it means for your tyres
The A38 runs straight through the west of Derby, and its junctions at Kingsway, Markeaton and Little Eaton have been rebuilt to take the city's growing traffic. Fast dual carriageway miles followed by queues at the junctions are the typical commute here, which wears the front tyres more than the rears.
Rolls-Royce, Toyota at Burnaston and the rail engineering firms make Derby a city of shift workers, and plenty of them drive at night and in the early morning. Cold mornings, wet roads and darkness all make tyre condition matter, so check tread and pressures before the winter clocks change.
Derby does not have a Clean Air Zone charge for drivers. Head north up the A6 through Belper and Matlock and you are in the Derwent Valley and the Peak District, where steep lanes and changeable weather reward good grip.
Mobile tyre fitting in Derby
Most Derby suburbs have drives or quiet streets, and the large employers have car parks where a fitter can work with permission. Choose where the car will be, add any access notes, and the fitter brings your tyres, fits and balances them by the car and takes away the old ones.

Would you rather visit a garage? Workshops on the network around Derby list their distance and their fitted price before you book. A workshop is the better choice for alignment if the steering wheel sits off-centre.
