Driving in Sheffield, and what it means for your tyres
Few journeys in Sheffield are flat. Climbs like Blake Street in Walkley, Psalter Lane and the long drag up to Crookes put heavy load through the driven wheels, and the descents ask a lot of the front tyres under braking. Uneven wear between front and rear is normal here, which is why many Sheffield drivers rotate their tyres or replace them in pairs.
Head west and within minutes you are on Peak District roads such as the A57 Snake Pass and the A6187 towards Hathersage. These are exposed, often wet and sometimes icy, and Snake Pass is regularly closed by snow in winter. Drivers who use them often get real value from all-season or winter tyres.
Sheffield runs a Class C Clean Air Zone covering the inner ring road and the centre. Private cars are not charged, but older vans and taxis can be. If you run a small business vehicle that does not meet the standards, mobile fitting saves a charged trip into town.
Mobile tyre fitting in Sheffield
Sheffield's hills mean a fitter needs to think about where to work. A level drive is ideal, and a flatter side street or a work car park is a good second choice. Mention the slope when you book and the fitter will plan the job, bring your tyres, fit and balance them and take the old ones away.
Workshop fitting near Sheffield
If a steep street rules out a kerbside job, a workshop on the network may suit better. Each one lists its distance and its fitted price, and a garage is the right place for alignment after a pothole, which Sheffield's roads produce in quantity after a hard winter.
