Driving in Cambridge, and what it means for your tyres
Cambridge is built for bikes. The centre is laced with cycle lanes and bus gates, and driving through it is slow and best avoided, which makes a tyre fitting at home or at work the obvious choice. On the radial roads, Hills Road, Newmarket Road, Histon Road and Madingley Road, there are cyclists on almost every journey, so short stopping distances matter.
The A14 north of the city and the M11 to the west are among the busiest roads in the east of England, and many local cars commute out to the business parks, the Biomedical Campus or along the M11 towards London. Motorway and dual carriageway miles wear tyres evenly but steadily.
Beyond the city the Fens are flat, open and exposed, with long straight drove roads, deep drainage ditches and crosswinds. There is no Clean Air Zone charge in Cambridge.
Mobile tyre fitting in Cambridge
Cambridge has a huge number of science parks, colleges and business campuses, and most of them have car parks where a fitter can work with permission. At home, many houses in Chesterton, Cherry Hinton and Trumpington have drives. Book your slot, and the fitter brings your tyres, fits and balances them by the car and takes the old set away.
