Driving in Swansea, and what it means for your tyres
Swansea is steep. Streets climbing from the city centre to Mount Pleasant, Townhill and Mayhill are some of the steepest in Wales, and Constitution Hill is a cobbled climb that few drivers attempt twice. Steep streets wear front tyres quickly and make good grip essential in the wet.
The M4 runs north of the city between junctions 42 and 47, and the A483 and A4067 carry traffic down into the centre and along the seafront to Mumbles. Most of Wales now has a 20mph default limit on residential roads, so a lot of local driving is slow and stop-start.
Out on the Gower, lanes are narrow and winding, with stone walls, ponies on the commons and sea air that is hard on rims and valves. Swansea has no Clean Air Zone charge.
Mobile tyre fitting in Swansea
Many Swansea homes are terraces on steep streets, so a level drive, a flatter side street or a work car park is the best place for a fitting. Mention any slope when you book, and the fitter brings your tyres, fits and balances them where the car is and takes the old ones away.
