Driving in Hereford, and what it means for your tyres
Hereford has no motorway. The A49 runs north to south through the city and crosses the Wye on the Greyfriars Bridge, which is the main river crossing for traffic, and it queues badly at peak times. Getting from one side of the city to the other can take longer than the distance suggests.
Most driving around Hereford is on rural roads: narrow lanes with high hedges, farm traffic, mud and gravel, and steep hills towards the Black Mountains and the Malverns. Lanes like these are where sidewall cuts and slow punctures from sharp stones happen.
The Wye floods regularly, and roads around the city, especially to the south and west, can close after heavy rain. Hereford has no Clean Air Zone charge for drivers.
Mobile tyre fitting in Hereford
Most homes around Hereford have drives, and many rural properties have plenty of space. The business parks at Rotherwas and Holmer have car parks a fitter can use with permission. Choose your spot, add any notes about lanes or gates, and your tyres are fitted, balanced and the old ones taken away.
Workshop fitting near Hereford
If you would rather take the car in, workshops on the network around Hereford list their distance and their fitted price before you book. A workshop suits alignment after a pothole on a country lane.
