Driving in Gloucester, and what it means for your tyres
The M5 runs along the eastern edge of Gloucester at junctions 11, 11a and 12, and the A40 and the A417 link the city with Cheltenham, the Cotswolds and Wales. The climb up the Cotswold escarpment on the A417 is steep and exposed, and it is a road where good grip makes a real difference in wet or icy weather.
The Severn floods regularly around Gloucester, especially near Over and the western approaches, and closures are common after heavy rain. Floodwater hides potholes and debris, so steady speeds and good tread are important after a wet spell.
Gloucester has no Clean Air Zone charge. Drive west into the Forest of Dean and you will find narrow, winding roads with sheep roaming freely, steep descents into the Wye Valley and a lot of fallen leaves in autumn.
Mobile tyre fitting in Gloucester
Most of Gloucester's suburbs have drives or quiet streets, and the business parks at Waterwells, Barnwood and along the A38 have car parks a fitter can use with permission. Choose your spot, and the fitter arrives with your tyres, fits and balances them by the car and takes the old ones away.
