Driving in Aberdeen, and what it means for your tyres
The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, the A90 bypass that opened in 2019, now carries most through traffic around the west of the city, linking the A90 north and south with the A96 to Inverness. It is fast and exposed, and in winter it can be hit hard by snow and ice.
Aberdeen's Low Emission Zone covers the city centre and applies to private cars, so a non-compliant vehicle is fined for entering. Granite setts on some city streets are slippery when wet, and haar from the North Sea can bring sudden fog.
Winters in the north east are long and cold. Head west on the A93 up Royal Deeside or the A944 towards the hills, and you can meet snow when the city is dry. Many local drivers choose all-season or winter tyres for exactly that reason.
Mobile tyre fitting in Aberdeen
Most of Aberdeen's suburbs have drives, and the business parks at Dyce, Westhill and Altens, where much of the energy industry is based, have large car parks a fitter can use with permission. Choose your spot, add any access details, and the fitter brings your tyres, fits and balances them and takes the old ones away.
Workshop fitting near Aberdeen
If you would rather visit a garage, workshops on the network around Aberdeen list their distance and their fitted price before you book. A workshop is the right choice for alignment work.
