Driving in Inverness, and what it means for your tyres
Almost every long journey from Inverness is on a demanding road. The A9 south to Perth climbs over the Drumochter Pass and is being dualled in stages, the A82 runs along the shore of Loch Ness to Fort William, and the A96 heads east to Aberdeen. They are long, fast and exposed, and good tyres matter on every mile.
Highland winters are serious. Snow, ice and black ice are common on the A9 and the hill roads, and deer on the road are a real hazard at dawn and dusk. Many local drivers fit winter or all-season tyres for that reason.
Inverness is also the start of the North Coast 500, which brings a lot of summer traffic onto single track roads with passing places. There is no Low Emission Zone charge in Inverness.
Mobile tyre fitting in Inverness
Most homes in Inverness have drives, and the business parks at Inshes, Beechwood and Longman and the hospital at Raigmore have car parks a fitter can use with permission. Choose your spot, add any notes about access, and the fitter brings your tyres, fits and balances them and takes the old ones away.
